A Variety of Sports for Summer and Winter
The Dachstein Glacier offers a variety of opportunities for outdoor activities and nature experiences in every season. In the summer, the focus is on hiking and climbin. In winter, you can explore the snow-covered mountains through winter hiking, freeriding, cross-country skiing, or ski touring. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace can simply enjoy the view.
When cross-country skiing on the Dachstein, you’ll be training at over 2,500 meters above sea level in a high-alpine setting. Depending on snow conditions, you can choose between the Ramsau Trail and the Hallstatt Trail.
When winter hiking on the Dachstein, you’ll experience snow, ice, and high-alpine scenery at a leisurely pace. Depending on conditions, short walking trails are also suitable for leisurely hikers and families.
In summer, varied hiking routes on the Dachstein lead through alpine pastures and into high-alpine terrain. A special highlight is the glacier hike to the Seethalerhütte.
When ski touring on the Dachstein, you have several options: from ski tours on groomed runs to off-piste ski tours and the famous Dachstein crossing.
Freeriding on the Dachstein means high-alpine terrain, deep snow, and challenging routes. This requires excellent skiing skills, alpine experience, and careful route planning.
Whether it’s a via ferrata or an alpine climbing route: when climbing on the Dachstein, you’ll find a variety of difficulty levels and routes set against a stunning mountain backdrop.
Are you interested in paragliding on the Dachstein Glacier?
If so, please contact the airfield operator directly: the flight school/alpine school Sky Club Austria GmbH. Due to changes on the Dachstein Glacier and the associated safety risks, no commercial tandem passenger flights are currently offered there. We appreciate your understanding.
There are alternative launch sites available for tandem flights in the Schladming-Dachstein region. Options include the Planai, the Hochwurzen, the Rittisberg, and the Hauser Kaibling. There, too, you can experience the mountain scenery from a bird’s-eye view.
Please note the current conditions
The activities available depend on the season, weather, snow conditions, and trail conditions. Therefore, be sure to check the current conditions on the mountain before your visit. The glacier report provides important information about open trails, cross-country ski trails, and current conditions.
When hiking in open or high-alpine terrain, alpine experience, appropriate gear, and a realistic assessment of your own abilities are essential. Also, be sure to observe local closures and safety guidelines.
