Interesting Facts About the Suspension Bridge
Fascinating facts about Austria's spectacular suspension bridge on the Dachstein.
The Dachstein Suspension Bridge is the highest suspension bridge in Austria. It is about 100 m long and 1 m wide and spans the steep cliffs of the Dachstein massif. Beneath your feet, the drop is about 400 m, while the panoramic view of the Alps unfolds before you. The spectacular view from the Dachstein makes the suspension bridge a popular photo spot.
For many, crossing it is a small test of courage. A 1.3-meter-high railing and sturdy steel cables ensure safety. The structure can withstand wind speeds of up to 250 km/h and bear snow loads of up to 750 kg per square meter.
Approximately 30,000 individual parts were assembled at great heights during construction. A total of 63 metric tons of steel was used —an impressive engineering feat.
